Write down each deadline separately
Extract the payment due date, release conditions, final collection date and any storage start date from the sale documents. Confirm the local time and how weekends or public holidays are treated. Do not assume a “day” means a business day unless the terms say so.
Ask whether the deadline refers to an appointment being booked or the vehicle physically leaving the site. An accepted transport enquiry is neither yard permission nor completed collection. Keep the yard’s written answer with the purchase record.
Read the storage rules as a separate cost risk
Ask the yard how storage is calculated, when it starts, how payment affects release and whether extensions can be requested. Obtain the specific terms rather than relying on a general fee estimate from someone who has used another branch.
- Release-ready date and any unresolved payment steps.
- Available collection appointments and daily cutoff times.
- Storage start date, calculation method and payment requirements.
- Contact authorised to approve an extension.
- What happens if an appointment is missed or rescheduled.
Ask for feasibility before promising collection
Give the provider the exact yard, lot details, condition and deadline. Ask what can be confirmed, what remains estimated and when the next update is expected. A deadline creates urgency but does not create an available carrier slot or suitable equipment.
If you are still considering a bid, ask about transport feasibility first, while understanding that availability can change. Include potential holding costs in your purchase decision without assuming a particular rate or free-storage period.
Use the deadline and release status when requesting auction collection planning, and ask for confirmation rather than treating an enquiry as a booked pickup.
Escalate a mismatch while there is still a choice
In a hypothetical sale, the yard releases a vehicle only after payment clears, leaving fewer collection appointments than the buyer expected. Contact both parties promptly: ask the yard about authorised alternatives or an extension, and ask the provider about realistic availability.
Record who agreed to any revised date and whether charges still apply. A transport estimate does not waive storage, and a yard extension does not reserve transport. Confirm each arrangement independently.
Keep one person responsible for monitoring the deadline until collection is confirmed. After pickup, retain the release or collection record and settle any remaining yard obligations under the purchase terms.
